What Is My Purpose?
What is my life’s purpose? This question resounds in the back of our minds while we do the mundane tasks of life. The day-in and day-out routines of work, caring for children, waiting in traffic, preparing meals often have us asking, “Is this all there is?” When we experience a gap between where we are and where we imagined that we would be in life, it can lead to the questions:
“What is my purpose?”
“Why am I here?”
“Is my life an accident or is there something more than what I can see right now?”
Does God have a purpose for my life?
The Bible says in Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” The truth is, God has a purpose for your life and there is absolutely nothing that can stop it.
Is the purpose good?
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Not only does God have a purpose for your life, but it’s a purpose that is filled with a hope, and a future.
How do I find my purpose?
Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” When you commit your work to the Lord, he will establish His purpose in your life. Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” That means in the middle of a difficult conflict, a hard work situation, a challenging marriage – whatever it is – you can still be in the center of God’s purpose for your life. By choosing a good attitude and remembering that you are serving God instead of people, you can move toward your purpose. And as God sees you faithful to serve him in the mundane and challenging things of life, he can trust you with more.
You can’t pursue your purpose alone.
Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for the lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed.” At V1 Church we are dedicated to seeing you find, live and fulfill your purpose. You can’t do it alone, and we are here to help! Join us for church this Sunday, online or in person, and find a community of people who will urge you toward your purpose!
