No Relationship, No Anointing
During a sermon series at V1 Church titled “Upper Room,” several leaders taught on the importance of prayer in a Christian's life. In the second part of this sermon series, Pastor Sandra, mother of Apostle Mike Signorelli, powerfully encouraged believers to have the right motive when coming to God in prayer because that makes room for a much deeper prayer experience with God.
As Christians, we know that only when we abandon self do we allow God to have His way in our lives. Acts 1:8 states, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The promise of God’s power abiding in us is what leads to a fulfilled life in Christ.
Relationship = Anointing
“No relationship, no anointing,” Pastor Sandra warns. Many believers want God's power but neglect to commune with Him. Scripture is clear, though, that when we seek Him, that is when everything else is added to us (Matthew 6:33).
So what is the price of the anointing? The price is dying to oneself.
In Psalm 63:1, we see that David sought God to see His power and glory. David had a glimpse of God's incredible power because he longed for it and put in the work to position himself to go from glory to glory in God.
Pastor Sandra broke down the verse in three parts – David declared that his flesh longed for God, his soul (mind, will and emotions) thirsted for God, and his spirit was seeking. She likened the verse in the psalm to Moses' tabernacle account, saying those two scriptures outline a progression in personal prayer. The outer court of the tabernacle symbolizes fleshly desires when one is praying just for their own wants). The holy place in the tabernacle symbolizes the soul's thirst for God (when prayer turns to genuine worship towards God). The holy of holies symbolizes the spiritual communion with God (Where all is forgotten and God alone is the main focal point).
The outer court is a place of struggle and repentance, where one might feel God is distant. There will be indications in your flesh that you are longing to be closer to your creator. The holy place is characterized by the place where one finds a breakthrough while praying. The prophet Isaiah said, “Everyone who thirsts, come to the water and you will never thirst again.” Likewise, the psalmist in the Bible wrote, “As the deer thirsts for the water so my soul thirsts after thee, God.” In that place, the believer will feel God's presence as they engage in worship.
The holy of holies is a state of "drinking Him in," where one is no longer focused on personal needs but on deeper communion with God. “There's a place that you can come into in the holy of holies that you are no longer concerned about you and your heart and what you're going through and what is happening in your life, you're saying ‘God I need more of you,’" Pastor Sandra assured.
Fight Your Flesh
The longer you are on your knees praying, the less of your flesh remains. Believers are called to crucify the flesh (Galatians 5:24). When you spend time praying, there’ll be a death to your flesh. The bad attitudes, the struggles of your flesh will be dealt with. Following that dying to self, one enters the holy place, and suddenly from there you are ushered by the Holy Spirit into the holy of holies.
It’s important to note that the enemy wants us to stay in the flesh so we do not experience a breakthrough. There's a place that you can enter in the holy of holies that you are no longer concerned about you and your heart and what's happening around you, all you are saying is “God, I need more of you, show me your heart God.” That is where God takes you into deeper dimensions, so that is why it is such a struggle to get there sometimes.
In the holy of holies, God shares things with His children that we will not hear otherwise. In that place is where He begins to pour out His anointing. Pastor Sandra said her son, Mike Signorelli, began seeking God in that place at age 15, while growing up in a rat-infested home with a single mom. Now, because he spent all that time in the holy of holies, God has trusted him greatly with all that he stewards today.
All about Sacrifice
For those who believe they are called to preach, Pastor Sandra reiterated that if one has no relationship with God, one will have no real anointing and therefore should not have the microphone.
Examine your prayer life, the Christian life is all about sacrifice. Will you pay the price on your knees in prayer Monday through Saturday, too, not just on Sunday during church? Prayer is a daily necessity, not just an option.
Every person has a purpose in God, and He wants a relationship with everyone, but too many Christians would rather stay in the outer courts. Challenge yourself today to go deeper in God and experience all of Him in the holy of holies.
