Holy Discontent
Have you ever known in your spirit it’s not supposed to be like this? Rather than being negative, Holy Discontent is a spiritual awareness that things are not how they should be. Feeling Holy Discontent could be a divine catalyst in pushing individuals toward their intended destiny and a deeper relationship with God.
In a sermon by Apostle Mike Signorelli, the V1 Church leader speaks about the benefits of having an inner dissatisfaction with the current reality. When channeled correctly through faith, prayer, and perseverance, Holy Discontent is a powerful force that prevents settling for mediocrity and propels individuals towards their God-ordained destiny.
Believers filled with the Holy Spirit have a fire in them that won’t let them settle. That fire is what transforms ordinary people into chain breakers.
Holy Discontent—God or the Devil
Sometimes this discontent is divinely orchestrated. We often try to blame the devil for discontentment but God sometimes stirs up holy discontent to propel us into our destiny. Divinely inspired discontent can provoke individuals into intercession, prayer, and ultimately, their next phase of growth.
As we see in the transformation process of a diamond. It begins as coal under pressure and intense heat. The carbon atoms crystallize to form diamonds. God sometimes uses challenging processes to increase an individual's worth and value. This process may lead to feeling less relatable to those around you as your spiritual journey evolves, however keep your faith strong in God and let the process take its course.
Apostle Mike highlighted Hannah, the mother of Samuel, one of Israel’s greatest prophets and priests. In 1 Samuel 1:6–10 it says “the Lord” closed her womb. Hannah was barren, in her story, we see the holy discontentment was initiated by God, however the enemy used a woman to provoke Hannah.
Her rival provoked her intending to irritate Hannah, but instead, it stirred Hannah to press in deeper to God. Hannah's response to her distress was to pray and weep bitterly, taking her feelings to the altar. Instead of being merely irritated, one should choose to be stirred into action and prayer.
Rivals can be used to confirm the call of God in a Christian’s life propelling someone into their destiny because of the opposition. The believer in Christ has to choose if you are going to allow the irritation to stir you up or deter you. The promotion comes from God but the enemy will try to throw you off course.
Hannah knew how to take her feelings to God. By releasing the emotion, it made room for God to fill her with something new and she receives the child she so desires. We too should turn the groaning into intercession. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words,” Romans 8:26.
Some people need to learn how to cry again because growing up they were told not to. Feelings, however, do not dissipate; they get displaced so the lack of crying and showing vulnerability is just getting displaced. One has to get the sadness out of their body because if not it’ll turn into back pain or some sort of sickness. Let us practice bringing our burdens to God rather than displacing them. “God is near to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
Do Not Accept Your Discontentment
Hannah refused to accept her situation. We can not just accept and adjust to the issues in our lives, we must believe the Lord beyond them. Sometimes that means we have to change the people around us to sustain where we are headed. Believers need friends that redirect misery, not enjoy when their friends are suffering. Get rid of hindering relationships and surround yourself with a supportive godly community.
“Holy Discontent doesn't adjust to dysfunction it groans for something more,” Apostle Mike declared. Sometimes God allows the situation to get so bad, so that you can pray the way you were supposed to be praying the whole time (Romans 8:22–23).
Christians have to recognize their worth and not settle for less than God's intention.
Once you accept Christ as your Savior, all of hell will fight to get you back but turn your grumbling into groaning. Let a “Samuel” be birthed out of your situation. Your discontent can be linked to your God-given purpose!
