How to Stop Living in the Flesh and Access God's Supernatural Power
You are sitting in two hours of stop-and-go LIE traffic, exhausted and ready to snap. We have all been there—ready to give a sassy response, only to realize God is setting up a divine appointment in your commute.
That exact scenario happened on my way to preach at V1 Church. Driving our Tesla through NYC traffic, I dealt with aggressive gestures. When a car pulled alongside me and persistent waving caught my attention, I rolled down my window expecting confrontation. Instead, a stranger asked, "Are you Julie? Are you married to Mike?". When I nodded, he pleaded: "I have an urgent request. Tell your husband to pray for me, I’m struggling".
Right there at a red light, a supernatural exchange occurred. I told him, "We are praying for you. Your time is not over, and God has a divine appointment for you". Mike and I immediately began praying to break every generational curse over his life.
Stop treating your routine like a mundane chore. When you live in the Spirit, there is a destiny appointment everywhere your foot lands. You cannot buy diapers, get gas, or sit at a red light without encountering a moment designed by God.
Most believers live locked in carnal thinking, letting feelings dictate their walk. But true faith is not a feeling—it is a decision.
My faith does not equal my feelings. My faith is a decision.
The dictionary defines faith as a passive noun—an allegiance or doctrine. But in God's kingdom, faith is a verb. It is an active decision to believe God’s Word whether you see immediate evidence or not.
If you are waiting for a flaming angel guiding you home with McDonald's, you will miss the supernatural life God intended. Real faith moves even when emotions scream to stop. In Hebrews 11, ordinary people accessed God’s power not because they were perfect, but because they chose faith despite their failures.
A few years ago, I talked to my sister Jill about doing Ancestry.com to trace our family tree. She laughed: "Girl, you're a hillbilly, I'm a hillbilly, it's done". You might submit DNA to track biological bloodlines, but when born again, you receive spiritual DNA overriding natural limitations. You are adopted into a genealogy of supernatural faith.
Here are three foundational keys to break passivity and step into the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.
Why Surrendering Your Will Unlocks Supernatural Power
The supernatural moves when your personal agenda dies. As I taught in my sermon, "The supernatural accomplishes God's will when we surrender our will".
When a prayer goes unanswered, God is often protecting you from something that would crush you if it arrived prematurely. Over ten years planting V1 Church with Mike, I faced spiritual opposition and heavy attacks. Had God granted instant platform success years earlier, public hatred would have broken me. Protection is often disguised as delay.
In Ephesians 6:12, Scripture warns that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil. Using supernatural power for your own agenda is carnal manipulation. True spiritual authority is released only when you surrender to Jesus and pray, "Not my will, but Yours be done".
True power is not released through control; it is released through complete surrender.
Surrender normalizes the supernatural in your home. During mass deliverance in Amityville, people were set free from demonic spirits. Our team was sweating and fighting for breakthrough. I looked over, and our young daughter Everly was sitting calmly, scrolling squishy videos on my phone. The Holy Spirit whispered to me, "It's normal to her".
What seems chaotic to the world should be standard procedure for a kingdom family. My great-great-grandmother heard about a brush arbor revival in her town. Her family warned her not to let those people lay hands on her or speak in tongues. She disobeyed their fear, received the Holy Spirit, and altered our family lineage forever.
Why Signs and Wonders Follow Steps of Faith
You cannot sit in your comfort zone and expect God to manifest miracles. In Mark 16:17-18, Jesus promised that signs will follow those who believe—they will cast out devils, speak with new tongues, and lay hands on the sick.
Notice the biblical order: signs do not lead you; signs follow you. As I told our church, "For something to follow, your feet have got to be moving".
God does not stamp your passport before you take the trip; evidence appears after you step out.
If you sit in your prayer chair waiting for a feeling before talking to a CVS worker or praying for a friend, you will stay stagnant. A friend was diagnosed with an illness prone to replication. She spoke directly to the sickness: "Stop growing in the name of Jesus". Standing in faith, the illness stopped replicating. We must call those things that are not as though they are.
Do not get discouraged if you lay hands on someone for healing while battling symptoms yourself. I have laid hands on people who received miracles while fighting sickness in my own body. Your job is not to manage outcomes; your job is obedience. Faith and availability form a dangerous combination that opens doors no human can shut.
How to Claim Your Spiritual Birthright in Christ
The supernatural is not bonus content—it is your legal birthright as a child of God.
Jesus promised in Acts 1:8 that you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. In John 14:12, He declared that believers will do greater works. Look at your heritage in Hebrews 11:1-12—Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah. Ordinary people made mistakes, yet activated faith and produced miracles. Abraham packed up his life to live in tents for an unseen promise. Abel offered a sacrifice by faith, and Scripture says though he died, his faith still speaks.
The Greek word for "still speaks" is in the present tense—it means actively speaking right now. In Hebrews 12:24, the blood of Jesus speaks a better word than Abel's blood.
The blood of Jesus is actively speaking over your life, health, and family today.
Whatever area of your life feels bound by generational curses—your marriage, mind, or children—bring it under the blood. Stop settling for carnal passivity.
Step Out of the Flesh and Into the Spirit Today
I challenge you right now: get out of your flesh, get out of your excuses, and step into the supernatural life paid for at the cross.
Stand up, pray with boldness, and declare that generational bondage ends with you. Show up to a V1 Church campus this Sunday ready to serve, pray, and step into the miraculous.
