He Wants You to Dwell
As we get to know the real Jesus, we learn that God desires us to continually commune with Him.
Dwell and Be Blessed
The one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, is one that is guaranteed to abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1). Your dwelling place is where you are. Dwelling with God is being in a posture of constant communion with Him. That means – Thinking about God always and talking to Him always.
“Pray without ceasing” is a phrase found in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, it is a state of awareness that personifies the act of God always being present and involved in our lives.
Is your relationship with God so close that He is your refuge and fortress as the psalmist describes?
Psalm 91 talks about the benefits of dwelling with God. We see that abiding in God brings forth conditional promises. If you dwell, HE WILL deliver you from a snare and cover you and under His wings. You will find refuge.
When we abide in God’s shadow it requires boundaries. He doesn't change His boundaries, we change ours to be under his covering. Coming out of that covering brings forth suffering.
What does dwelling look like? Well, it is praying when you don't want to, fasting, studying…etc.
In the gospels, Jesus called Peter to join Him in walking on the water. That account is a good example of what abiding in God is like. As long as Peter kept His eyes locked on Jesus, He walked on water like Jesus did. The moment he looked down he began to sink. (Matthew 14:28-31)
Jesus Is Real Rest
When Peter kept his focus on Christ he was not afraid or worried but in looking down and becoming distracted, fear arose and caused him to sink. The fisherman knew those waters well and knew he was in deep water when he stepped out of the boat, but he only became concerned after taking his eyes off of Jesus. Sometimes our expertise and experience cancel out our faith.
Pastor Mike Signorelli teaches: “Whether one believes it is possible or not, they are right!” Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). One can not have faith in someone they are not connected to.
Dwelling in God brings forth development which can lead to having dominion in the respected area God is calling His followers into. Pastor Mike shared that Jesus wanted Peter to dwell in Him and take dominion over every creature under his feet by walking on water but it was short-lived due to Peter’s lack of faith.
Followers of the Most High have been seated in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 2:4:6). Where there's the true Jesus there is true rest. As we make more time to dwell, whenever there is dwelling there is rest.
While those who do not have a relationship with Jesus must go deeper, those who are in the faith need to abide and rest in God. When Jesus walked the earth He modeled what resting in God looked like. Every day He separated from His disciples and went and dwelled with His Father. It was from this place of rest that all of His ministry came forth.
Rest in God does not mean the absence of work, it is the presence of peace in your work.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” – John 15:4-5
