Comfort Is Killing Your Calling
Some people have walked with Jesus, worshiped, fasted and seen God move in powerful ways, but are stuck living off of an older encounter with God. If your last encounter was the final one, that's a dangerous place to be in. There is a great danger in comfort. Routine is often a death grip on Christendom. A lie that says, “I’ve arrived.”
Comfort has a quiet way of sedating one's hunger for God. And what you don’t hunger for, you’ll never chase. If we do not chase after the things of God, you may never encounter them.
Pastor Jeremiah Johnson, apostolic leader of The Alter Church, delivered a sermon at V1 Church, urging congregants to seek "more" of God beyond past experiences and religious routines.
He said, “The greatest hindrance to a next encounter in God is thinking you've already had it.”
What’s Blocking Your Breakthrough
In Acts 10, Peter, an apostle, a pillar of the early church, someone who walked with Jesus, receives a disturbing vision. A sheet filled with animals considered unclean descends from heaven, and God tells Peter, “Kill and eat.”
Peter, a devout jew who only ate kosher food, was offended. Eating unclean foods did not fit his spiritual framework. But it was what God was challenging him in. It was uncomfortable but his obedience to God in that moment changed everything. “Offense is the door to the more,” Pastor Jeremiah said.
The very things that offend us, shake us, challenge us, make us uncomfortable are often the exact things God uses to push us into the next level. You have to ask yourself “What if this offense is an invitation?”
What if the areas that are off-limits and our comfort zone is the very thing God is asking us to confront?
The pulpits may be filled with passion but so many in the pews are filled with passivity. Christian must live out the scriptures and not simply claim to love Jesus but live like people who serve satan on Friday night.
“God is trying to put fresh tears on your face again,” Pastor Jeremiah beckoned. “He’s looking for hunger, not hype.”
Revival is not about better church services, it’s about transformed lives, hearts on fire for Jesus, and the kingdom of God that invades every sphere—government, media, schools, families, and even the streets.
Break the Comfort Cycle
In Acts 10, Peter’s calling wasn’t confined to his normal Jewish circles. God used him to reach Cornelius, a Roman centurion, a man outside the religious system. Cornelius had a hunger for God before the apostles even showed up. That is how all of God’s people should be.
We must be a people so rooted in truth, so filled with the Holy Spirit, that when revival knocks from the outside we open the door instead of wishing to stay in comfort. Revival starts with surrender.
People don’t need another conference, they need to see true surrender on display. People that say yes to God messing up their routine, stretching them beyond their comfort, and using them outside the church, not just inside it.
Children of God should not let anything hold them back. We shouldn’t hold up a “Do Not Disturb” sign on our hearts. “God, take the sign off. I give You full access. Wreck me. Renew me. Recommission me,” Pastor Jeremiah declared.
Comfort is killing the calling of so many. Believers were made for more but it will cost them their routine. We were called to share the kingdom of God, not just inside a church building, but into every area of society.
Give God a fresh yes, today. One that breaks barriers, that offends your religious pride, that opens the door to Cornelius, ayes that says, “Whatever it takes, Lord. I want more.”
Pray This:
“Lord, forgive me for settling. Forgive me for clinging to comfort over calling. I remove the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign from my heart. Shake me out of routine. Make me uncomfortable for Your glory. Give me fresh hunger. Give me a fresh yes. And lead me into the more. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
