Why God Healed You: The Purpose Behind Your Brokenness

How many times have you cried out to God in the desperation of your own need? "Lord, I don't have enough money to pay rent this month." "Lord, I'm so lonely it physically hurts." "Lord, save me from this addiction before it kills me." We come to Jesus completely broken, and in His mercy, He rescues us. He tells us to pick up our mat and walk.

But what happens after you pick up your mat? How do you steward the healing God just gave you?

The American church has created audiences instead of armies. We are obsessed with getting our miracle, getting our breakthrough, and getting our blessing. But we miss the entire point of why God delivered us in the first place.

Your healing was never just for you.

Becoming a Conduit for Miracles

God didn't set you free so you could just sit in a comfortable church seat every Sunday and be an infinitely long audience member. You were healed so you could become a conduit for other people's healings. You are supposed to be the living proof to everyone still trapped by their afflictions that if they encounter a man named Jesus, they can be healed too.

But instead of becoming ambassadors of freedom, we get comfortable. We get saved, but stay immobile. We get saved, but stay silent. We get saved, but stay distracted.

The devil isn’t intimidated by a lukewarm Christian. He is terrified of a believer who is always on mission.

The Call to Stand in the Broken Places

The prophet Ezekiel paints a devastating picture of a nation in total moral collapse. God surveys the land, looking at the injustice, the perversion, and the brokenness. And God makes a tragic statement. He says He sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the breach before Him, so the land wouldn't be destroyed, but He found no one.

Notice, God didn't just point out their sin. He was pointing out their passivity. He was looking for someone willing to stand in the gap, and nobody would do it.

In scripture, walls aren't about restricting your fun. They are a protective barrier. The laws of God are designed for human flourishing. When you abandon God's design for the family, for sexuality, for marriage, you tear down the protective membrane that keeps the enemy out. And right now, our culture is bleeding because the walls are broken. People are looking to politicians and cultural trends to save them, but they are putting their hope in false kings. We don't need another social media debate or cringe reaction video to a Disney movie. We need men and women willing to stand in the gap.

As Pastor Mike Signorelli says, "I believe we have a generation where everybody wants to be Ezekiel listing the sins, but nobody wants to be the one rebuilding the wall."

The Gap You See Is Your Assignment

You might be asking, "How do I know where to stand?" Let me make it plain for you. Wherever there is a gap, there is an assignment.

The gap that you will notice is the gap that allowed the enemy in and almost killed you.

I know this firsthand. I was raised without a father, and that absence absolutely wrecked my life. I experienced the devastation of fatherlessness in a generation that is statistically the most fatherless in human history. I saw that gap because I fell through it. So what did I do? I decided to stand in it.

I determined by God's grace to be a father to the fatherless. During the 2020 pandemic, I was preaching online, and suddenly thousands of people in the comments started calling me "Papa Sigs." I never asked them to do it. But I would log off and just weep, telling God, "I used to call my biological father Papa before he died." Two and a half decades later, God allowed me to stand in that exact gap and be a spiritual father to thousands.

Stop Waiting for Perfection to Obey

When Jesus stretched out His arms on the cross, He stood in the ultimate gap. He bridged the divide between our sin and God's holy perfection. That was the first juncture of your Christian life. But Jesus bodily ascended into heaven, and now He has left His Holy Spirit inside of you. Now, it's your turn to reach out your hand and pull the broken, the addicted, and the lost across the divide.

You don't need a theology degree to cast out a demon, and you don't need to be perfect to tell your testimony. The hardest thing to convince a Christian to do is simply share what Jesus did for them. You say, "But I still have things I'm working on." News flash: we all do. If you wait until you stop having needs to finally obey the command of the Holy Spirit, you are going to die having never done it.

Your life is not about you anymore.

The blood of the Lamb has already been shed, but now it's time for the word of your testimony. I’m just a kid from Chicago. I’m a hyssop branch—a common weed. But when you dip a weed in the blood of Jesus, it’s not about the branch anymore; it’s about the power of the blood it carries.

God wants to dip your broken story into the blood of Jesus and apply it to the doorposts of your family, your city, and your industry. Stop building drama. Stop building comment sections. Start building the wall. Tell your story: who you were, when you encountered Jesus, and who you are now. The stakes are literally life and death. Step into the breach. Stand in the gap. Rebuild the wall.
